Claymation Moviemaking for the Family
2/3/2012

Claymation isn’t just for youngsters anymore! Each family group (friends welcome) will work together to create characters out of clay and bring their creations to life using digital cameras and animation software. The themes for this session are “Winter Wonderland” and “Fun in the Snow.” Each group will film its own movie, take home clay models from class, and receive a copy of their claymation film on a CD-ROM. Great Adventures Program for Preschoolers Info. Session

Interested parents can attend this FREE information session on our Great Adventures Program for Preschoolers to learn more about the program. General information and curriculum content will be shared. Based on the premise that children learn through play, Great Adventures participants ages 3 to 5 explore, create, discover, problem solve, and communicate to develop age-appropriate skills. Experienced, nurturing staff members implement a progressive program using themes to expose students to colors, shapes, numbers, and letters through a friendly, fun atmosphere. A balance of whole group and small group activities encourage academic and listening skills along with social interaction. Each classroom consists of two instructors and approximately 18 students. All children must be completely toilet trained to participate. Classes begin in early September and run through mid-May. Morning and afternoon sessions are available. Classes take place at the Heritage Center, 24023 W. Lockport St. in downtown Plainfield, and at the Streams Recreation Center, 24319 Cedar Creek Ln., Plainfield. [more]

Valentine Pictures & Pony Rides
2/12/2012

Make Peter Pan your sweetheart and take a picture with him for Valentine’s Day! Peter will be festively dressed for the event and will pose for as many pictures as you can take in 3 minutes. Pony rides will also be available. Rides are 10 minutes in length and helmets will be provided. Bring your camera as NTEC will not be providing a photographer or photos for this event. Please call ahead to book your pony ride time as those with reservations will be served first. We try to keep the ride times on schedule; however, it does take time to switch riders. Daddy Daughter Dance

Treat your daughter or favorite little girl ages 3-13 to a special night out she will never forget! Join us for dancing, crafts, refreshments, snacks and fun! Flashlight Egg Hunt
3/30/2012

Bring your flashlight to Van Horn Woods for our 4th Annual Flashlight Egg Hunt! Kids will have the opportunity to hunt for eggs filled with prizes, gift certificates and candy! MUST pre-register to participate. No on-site registration will be allowed. Event will be held rain or shine. EGG-citing Activities

Join us for a snack, craft and Egg Hunt with the Bunny! Make sure you remember your basket to hunt for colorful eggs that the bunny has “hidden”. Some of the hidden eggs have a surprise in them, so make sure to check each egg before you leave! Parents, bring your camera as the Easter Bunny will pose with your child. All children must be accompanied by an adult. MUST pre-register to participate. No on-site registration will be allowed. Event will be held rain or shine. Plainfield Township Disabilities Committee Abilities Expo
4/14/2012

This FREE “No One Can Stop Me” Abilities Expo will include vendors, workshops, and guest speakers. Concessions will also be available. The exhibitors showcase will feature products and services including: automobile/van conversions; assistive technologies; bathroom equipment; beds, furnishings and accessories; chairs and accessories; daily living aids; durable medical equipment; exercise, recreation, sports equipment and services; home medical equipment and services; incontinence products; insurance and insurance services; legal services; publications; ramps/lifts; rehabilitative care/services; residential programs; seating/positioning systems and accessories; travel and hospitality services; and wheelchairs, scooters and walkers. Patriotic Picnic & FIREWORKS!
7/3/2012

The FREE event will begin at 5 p.m. and will culminate with a fireworks display at dusk. Participants are encouraged to bring blankets, picnic baskets, chairs and coolers for this all-ages event. Concessions will also be provided by the Plainfield Central High School Athletics Booster Club. (Please note that alcoholic beverages are not allowed on school or park district property.) The event will provide fun activities for the entire family, including an inflatable obstacle course, “Chalk It Up” sidewalk art, family games, bean bag toss, and Play Zone activities. The event will also include touch-a-truck opportunities including military, police, fire, and village vehicles, as well as representation by Operation Support Our Troops, an organization that sends care packages, as well as cards and letters of support from the community, to troops deployed overseas. A DJ will provide music throughout the evening, and the Plainfield Park District’s dance classes will perform at 7 p.m. [more]
