Mother Daughter Pretend Sleepover
5/18/2012

Bring your mom to an evening of pretend sleepover fun! Wear your pj’s and bring your sleeping bag and pillow! We will have a dance party along with fun crafts and playing games! Refreshments and snacks will be served. Each couple will receive a special take-home treat. Registration deadline is Friday, May 11. For ages 5-12. R $27/NR $40.50 per couple. Skate Contest

The Plainfield Park District will co-sponsor Jeric's Skate Contest (program #37420A1) on Saturday, May 19.

Check-In and Day-of-Event Registration: 11 a.m. Competition: Noon

Renwick Community Park, located on Renwick Road west of Route 59.

Contestants will be split into five age divisions: 3rd-5th grades, 6th-8th grades, high school, and adults 18+.

All participants are guaranteed one 1-minute qualifying run to show off their best tricks for the crowd and judges. Top scorers from the first run will skate a second and deciding final run. ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A HELMET TO PARTICIPATE! A DJ will play music throughout the day.

The cost for pre-registered participants is $5 Pre-registered participants are asked to arrive early for check-in. Day-of-event registration is $10 and starts at 11 a.m. at the skate park.

Hershey’s Track & Field Meet

Hershey’s Track & Field Program was created over 30 years ago to promote youth physical fitness and provide fun learning experiences for children 9 to 14 years old. Youth track & field is a great way to get kids started in a physical fitness program. It’s the largest youth sports program of its kind in the United States and Canada. Track & field meets take place in every state and every province in North America. Hundreds of athletes make it to the grand finale - the North American Final in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Join us as we help kids discover their potential, make new friends, and gain new found self confidence. Every child is a winner with the Hershey’s Track & Field Games!

Beginner 1 Horse Lover Camp
6/4/2012 to 6/8/2012

This camp is for students with little or no experience around horses. Participants will learn the basics of horse care and riding. Examples of topics to be covered include: grooming, tacking, leading, mounting, dismounting, proper position, steering, basic gaits, parts of the horse, feeding, stall cleaning, and common horse terminology. Campers need to bring a brown bag lunch and beverage with them each day. It is up to the instructor to decide on horse/pony assignments. Students will be divided into groups that will rotate activities throughout the day. Get ready for new activities this year! Parents are invited to watch their child ride the final day of camp.

Pee Wee Camp - Horseback Riding
6/11/2012 to 6/15/2012

Have a young child who loves horses? Sign him or her up for our week long pee wee camp! The participants will learn the fundamentals of horse care, riding, and general knowledge about our four legged friends. The riding portion of each day will be tailored to the individual student and there will be staff available to help those who are not quite ready to be on their own. By the end of camp students should know the following: how to groom a horse, the parts of tack and where they go, how to sit properly on a horse, how to read horse emotions, basic parts of the horse, and how to bathe a horse. Parents are invited to watch their child ride the final day of camp.

Chicago Architecture Tour - Adults
6/12/2012

Chicago is known world-wide for its architecture and has many architectural icons throughout the downtown area. On this tour, your certified Chicago guide will show you the Burnham Plan, the Chicago School of Architecture and what changes were made after the Great Fire of 1871 that encouraged many great architects to come to Chicago and build. See examples of many styles and learn about what is happening now in Chicago architecture. See the difference between Sullivan, Mies, and Jahn and cruise on the Chicago River to see great architecture from a different vantage point. Stop at the State of Illinois Building and Rookery Building lobbies to see spectacular examples of old and new. A delicious lunch at Pazzo’s is included in the day. Lunch choice is required at the time of registration: Chicken Vesuvio or Capellini Pomodoro.

Kids Garage Sale
6/15/2012

Do some spring cleaning because CLUTTER = CASH! Kids will learn the value of getting rid of their old stuff as well as what it takes to make a deal! This sale is strictly for children’s toys, games, books, sports equipment, clothes and collectibles. Adult supervision is required per space. Sellers must provide their own tables and chairs. Information packets will be sent to registered sellers one week prior to the sale. Registration deadline is Monday, June 4. Fees are non-refundable after this date.

1 garage sale space = 2 parking spaces.

Beginner 2 Horse Lover Camp
6/25/2012 to 6/29/2012

Beginner level 2 riders are those that have participated in past summer camps and/or group lessons and already know how to lead a horse, groom, and tack with some assistance. These riders should also be comfortable mounting, dismounting, and riding at a walk without a handler. Students will review past camp information and learn more about basic first aid, how to safely do turn-out, feed rations, blanketing, and basics of good and bad confirmation. New riding skills include learning diagonals, riding a figure 8, riding a serpentine, and going over trot poles. Parents are invited to watch their child ride the final day of camp.

Morton Arboretum Trip - Teens

At The Morton Arboretum imagination lives... curiosity grows... and kids flourish. Here, you can explore, learn, play, and celebrate in nature. There’s so much to discover at the Morton Arboretum. Participants are to bring their lunch and a backpack to keep their belongings in. Please wear gym shoes as we will be doing a lot of walking as we explore what the Arboretum has to offer. Staff will keep participants involved in activities and assist participants in getting to know the other kids in the group. Games will be played, nature lessons will be learned and seeds will be planted for new friendships to blossom!

Senior Citizen Annual Summer Picnic

Photo Challenge Project - Deadline
6/28/2012

This isn’t your normal photo shoot. It’s called letter photo art! Here’s what you do… First come up with a word that reflects your views of recreation… examples are play, park, fun, participate, game, drama, etc. Be creative in choosing your word.

Next, you are to go out and take pictures of recreational items that represent the letters in that word. To enter your project print the photos as 4” x 6” prints and make a display with the photos. The way you display your prints is up to you!

Enter your Photo Challenge Project by Thursday, June 28, projects will be displayed at the Patriotic Picnic event and will be judged by Recreation Staff. In addition participants from the Patriotic Picnic will be able to vote for their favorite! Both winners will have their photo projects displayed at our new facility the Heritage Professional Center for all park district participants to enjoy! [more]

Patriotic Picnic & FIREWORKS!
7/3/2012

The FREE event will begin at 5 p.m. and will culminate with a fireworks display at dusk. Participants are encouraged to bring blankets, picnic baskets, chairs and coolers for this all-ages event. Concessions will also be provided by the Plainfield Central High School Athletics Booster Club. (Please note that alcoholic beverages are not allowed on school or park district property.) The event will provide fun activities for the entire family, including an inflatable obstacle course, “Chalk It Up” sidewalk art, family games, bean bag toss, and Play Zone activities. The event will also include touch-a-truck opportunities including military, police, fire, and village vehicles, as well as representation by Operation Support Our Troops, an organization that sends care packages, as well as cards and letters of support from the community, to troops deployed overseas. A DJ will provide music throughout the evening, and the Plainfield Park District’s dance classes will perform at 7 p.m. [more]

Spend the day at three interesting LaSalle County venues! Join us as we experience history on the LaSalle Canal Boat 1-hour ride. Also see the architectural grandeur and hear the family stories at the Late Victorian, Second Empire Hegeler Carus Mansion. Walk through an amazing 10-room garden and 18th century Tudor cottage house with stories to tell at the Weber House and Gardens. Jump Clinic - Horseback Riding

Advanced riders are invited to ride with Mary Grace Sinclair at our jumping camp. Participants will learn from the ground up by discussing the following topics: the difference between jumping disciplines, such as hunters and jumpers, how to walk a line before jumping, and how to set a course. The mounted portion will include riding a gymnastics line and jumping a student set course. Please note that this camp is for riders who have been taking regular lessons and have experience jumping courses. Home By Myself - Youth

Want a class to help make your child feel safe and lessen the dangers of being alone? Here it is, the topics that will be discussed include having a plan for when by themselves, how to use the telephone correctly, posting emergency numbers, locking doors and windows, checking in with parents or a trusted neighbor, what to do in case of a fire, adopting a family code, what to do if followed and how to use and make a first aid kit. Can you sweep the fastest? Saddle the quickest? Muck a stall in record time? Test your skills at our first ever barn Olympics. We will have various events that will be judged on speed and accuracy. Winners of individual events will receive prizes and the overall champion will get a free riding lesson. Appropriate barn attire is required. Festa Italiana - Adult/Senior Trips

Beginner 3 Horse Lover Camp

Not quite an intermediate rider? Come to our new level 3 camp! This camp is for students who are capable of grooming, tacking, and riding with great control at a walk and trot. Participants will begin to start working towards being able to canter during camp. The riding portion will include riding without stirrups and doing various balance exercises. Campers will be able to choose from a variety of topics for their classroom experience. If you are unsure of your riding level please call the barn for an evaluation lesson. Parents are invited to watch the students participate in a horse show the final day of camp!

White Water Canyon Water Park

Pack your sunscreen; it’s time to cool off this summer. Join us as we go to the Tinley Park Park District’s White Water Canyon Water Park. This water park encompasses 5 acres of wet fun for everyone. The main pool features a zero depth entry with an interactive play area, a 1-meter diving board, and a 3-meter drop slide. The continuously fl owing lazy river will be your place to relax in a single or double inner tube; you can take the adventure path for buckets of water fun or keep on the relaxing path. Participants must bring money for lunch and snacks as outside food and beverages are not allowed into the water park.

Family “Pretend” Campout

Horse Ready Camp
8/6/2012 to 8/10/2012

Do you think you are ready for your own horse? Experience what it’s like at our horse ready camp! Students will be assigned a horse for the week and will be responsible for feeding, watering, stall cleaning, turn-out, grooming, and riding. Participants will also learn what to do in real-life emergency situations as well as cover other areas of horse ownership. New riding skills include learning how to and/or improving the canter, getting the correct lead, riding without stirrups, and performing patterns. This camp is for intermediate level riders and above only. An intermediate rider is a student who has been taking lessons for at least a year and knows how to lead a horse, groom, and tack on his/her own. These students should also be able to ride with great control at a walk and trot as well as have some experience at the canter. If you are unsure of your riding level please call the barn for an evaluation lesson. Parents are invited to watch the students participate in a horse show the final day of camp!

Do you like to jump around? Then jump aboard and join us as we go to Xtreme Trampolines in Carol Stream. It is a warehouse full of commercial grade trampolines where we will play games and jump around. Not only will this be a fun outing but it will be a great workout as well! 60 Seconds of Fun!

60 seconds is on the clock... can you complete your challenge in time! Every team will have the opportunity to complete challenges in which your card will be stamped pass or fail. We will then tabulate the results and the top 3 teams will move on to round 2. A tie breaker game will be played if necessary. Does your team have what it takes to win the final 60 second challenge? Teams will consist of 2 adults and 2 children (age 8-17). When registering please register one adult team captain and list teammates’ names and ages when prompted. A list of challenges will be emailed to registered participants on Wed., Aug. 8. Registration deadline is Monday, Friday, Aug. 3.
