This camp is for students with little or no experience around horses. Participants will learn the basics of horse care and riding. Examples of topics to be covered include: grooming, tacking, leading, mounting, dismounting, proper position, steering, basic gaits, parts of the horse, feeding, stall cleaning,
and common horse terminology. Campers need to bring a brown bag lunch and beverage with them each day. It is up to the instructor to decide on horse/pony assignments. Have a young child who loves horses? Sign him or her up for our week long pee wee camp! The participants will learn the fundamentals of horse care, riding, and general knowledge about our four legged friends. The riding portion of each day will be tailored to the individual student and there will be staff available to help those who are not quite ready to be on their
own. By the end of camp students should know the following: how to groom a horse, the parts of tack and where they go, how to sit properly on a horse, how to read horse emotions, basic parts of the horse, and how to bathe a horse. Parents are invited to watch their child ride the final day of camp.

Chicago is known world-wide for its architecture and has many architectural icons throughout the downtown area. On this tour, your certified Chicago guide will show you the Burnham Plan, the Chicago School of Architecture and what changes were made after the Great Fire of 1871 that encouraged
many great architects to come to Chicago and build. See examples of many styles and learn about what is happening now in Chicago architecture. See the difference between Sullivan, Mies, and Jahn and cruise on the Chicago River to see great architecture from a different vantage point. Stop at the State of Illinois Building and Rookery Building lobbies to

Beginner level 2 riders are those that have participated in past summer camps and/or group lessons and already know how to lead a horse, groom, and tack with some assistance. These riders should also be comfortable mounting, dismounting, and

Students will review past camp information and learn more about basic first aid, how to safely do turn-out, feed rations, blanketing, and basics of good and bad confirmation. New riding skills include learning diagonals, riding a figure 8, riding a serpentine, and going over trot poles. Parents are invited to watch their child ride

This isn’t your normal photo shoot. It’s called letter photo art! Here’s what you do… First come up with a word that reflects your views of recreation… examples are play, park, fun, participate, game, drama, etc. Be creative in choosing your word.
Next, you are to go out and take pictures of recreational items that represent the letters in that word. To enter your project print the photos as 4” x 6” prints and make a display with the photos. The way you display your prints is up to you!
Enter your Photo Challenge Project by Thursday, June 28, projects will be displayed at the Patriotic Picnic event and will be judged by Recreation Staff. Pack your sunscreen; it’s time to cool off this summer. Join us as we go to the Tinley Park Park District’s White Water Canyon Water Park. This water park encompasses 5 acres of wet fun for everyone. The main pool features a zero depth entry with an interactive play area, a 1-meter diving board,
and a 3-meter drop slide. The continuously fl owing lazy river will be your place to relax in a single or double inner tube; you can take the adventure path for buckets of water fun or keep on the relaxing path. Do you think you are ready for your own horse? Experience what it’s like at our horse ready camp! Students will be assigned a horse for the week and will be responsible for feeding, watering, stall cleaning, turn-out, grooming, and riding. Participants will also learn what to do in real-life emergency situations as well as cover other areas of horse ownership. New riding skills include learning how to and/or improving the canter, getting the correct lead, riding without stirrups, and performing patterns. This camp is for
intermediate level riders and above only. An intermediate rider is a student who has been taking lessons for at least a year and knows how to lead a horse, groom, and tack on his/her own. These students should also be able to ride with great
