Part-Time Positions
Part-Time Public Information Assistant
PURPOSE: To assist the Public Information Department in day-to-day operations, including the promotion of Park District programs and events, as directed by the Public Information Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Publication design including fliers, posters, brochures, newsletters, seasonal booklet covers and annual reports; Web site design and maintenance; Ad design; Photography; Special event and expo materials and assistance; Contribute to departmental planning and brainstorming processes; Attend department and other park district meetings as requested; Assist with special projects and additional tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Proficiency in InDesign, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Publisher and PowerPoint. Ability to learn new programs as technology advances a must. Writing and editing skills a plus. Candidates should possess strong and effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and time management skills. Candidates must have the ability to meet deadlines and work well with others. Candidates should also be creative, flexible, organized, efficient, detail-oriented, positive and personable.
EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING: College degree in Graphic Design, Communications, Marketing, Public/Community Relations or related field preferred. Experience in field preferred but not necessary.

Part-Time Dance Instructor
Looking for a dance instructor with knowledge of ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, pointe, and pom dance. Must be willing to teach flexible hours such as nights and weekends including Sundays. Day Camps run Monday-Friday, June 4 – Aug. 10
Working hours (possible shifts): 7:15am – 3:15pm / 8:15am – 4:15pm / 10am – 6pm
- Positions and hours will be dependent upon camper registrations.
- Candidates will be interviewed once and may be selected for one of the available Day Camp positions based on qualifications.
- Camp Coordinator minimum of 21 years of age.
- Assistant Camp Coordinator / LC Counselor / MSA Camp Counselors minimum of 18 years of age.
- Youth Camp Counselors minimum of 16 years of age.
- When applying, please rank the positions in your preferential order.
- The program will be primarily conducted in an outdoor setting, although activities may take place indoors in inclement weather. Staff will be exposed to weather conditions, including cold, rain, and extreme heat.
- Staff is required to be in the pool with the kids on swim days.
- No vacations will be granted.
- Shifts may vary.
- Required to work the Plainfield Park District Patriotic Picnic scheduled for Tuesday, July 3, 2012 and the Hershey Track and Field Event scheduled for Thursday, May 31, 2012.
- No camp on Wednesday, July 4, 2012.

If you are away at school, please indicate on your application the dates of your spring break as we plan to do interviews in March and April during regular business hours.

First Aid Training Dates – TBA – if you cannot make the Park District training dates, you will be expected to obtain certification on your own at your own expense.

2012 Ottawa Street Pool Positions
Ottawa Street Pool Head Lifeguard
The head lifeguard is responsible for overseeing the lifeguards and front desk cashiers, ensuring the safety of patrons, and maintaining the functionality of the facility.
Minimum Qualifications:
• At least 18 years of age
• Lifeguard Certification Required
• CPR/First Aid Certification Required
• WSI Certification Preferred
• Minimum of 2 years lifeguarding preferred
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The head lifeguard will be responsible to the pool manager and assistant pool manager and will consult with them on matters relating to the staff and pool. The head lifeguard will:
• Supervise lifeguards and front desk cashiers
• Report disciplinary problems to pool management
• Act as pool manager in the absence of the pool manager, or fill in for lifeguards when necessary
• Provide a friendly and positive atmosphere for park district patrons, maintain professionalism, and uphold the image of the park district
• Communicate with parents and handle disciplinary problems among patrons
• Maintain pool paperwork, procedures, and incident/rescue reports
• Maintain a safe pool environment, be alert for potential emergency situations, and check patrons for conditions that may endanger others
• Know and use emergency procedures, equipment, and emergency action plan when necessary
• Maintain pool chemical level, monitor filters, and notify maintenance crew when necessary
• Perform any additional related tasks as required

Ottawa Street Pool Lifeguard
The lifeguard is responsible for the safety of patrons and the cleanliness of the facility.
Minimum Qualifications:
• At least 15 years of age
• CPR/First Aid Certification Required
• Lifeguard Certification Required
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The lifeguard is primarily responsible to the head lifeguard and shall consult with the pool manager and/or assistant pool manager on occasion. The lifeguard will:
• Provide a friendly and positive atmosphere for park district patrons, maintain professionalism, and uphold the image of the park district
• Maintain a safe pool environment, be alert and ready to act on potential emergency situations, and check patrons for conditions that may endanger others
• Handle disciplinary problems among patrons
• Know and use emergency procedures and equipment when necessary
• Maintain cleanliness of pool, deck, equipment, and locker rooms
• Attend mandatory in-service training throughout the summer
• Perform any additional related tasks as required

Ottawa Street Pool Swim Lesson Instructor
The swim lesson instructor is responsible for leading swim class in a professional manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
• At least 15 years of age
• CPR/First Aid Certification Required
• WSI Certification Preferred
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The swim lesson instructor is responsible to pool management. The swim lesson instructor will:
• Provide a friendly and positive atmosphere for park district patrons, and maintain professionalism both inside and outside of class
• Develop and maintain a prompt time schedule
• Report to duty in park district-issued suit approximately 10 minutes prior to the start of class
• Instruct participants in swimming lessons in a manner appropriate for the swim level of the class, and coordinate with other instructor to provide a quality class to patrons
• Immediately report problems to pool management
• Openly answer questions from participant and/or parents, and refer parents to manager if instructor is unable to answer their question
• Perform any additional related tasks as required

Ottawa Street Pool Front Desk Employee
The front desk employee is responsible for registering patrons for pool-related programs, managing admissions into the facility, and performing opening and closing duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
• At least 15 years of age
• Community CPR/First Aid Certification Required
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The front desk employee is directly responsible to the Head Lifeguard on duty, and on some occasions, pool managers. The front desk employee must have knowledge of money concepts and obtain customer service and employee relations skills. The front desk employee will:
• Provide a friendly and positive atmosphere for park district patrons, sell admissions, register patrons for pool-related programming, and handle telephone responsibilities
• Enforce general pool rules, store prohibited objects for patrons while on pool grounds, and prohibit loitering around the counter area
• Maintain an orderly and clean office area
• Promptly open and close pool doors at appropriate times
• Handle cash duties including operating register/computer and totaling register/computer with receipts
• Maintain daily reports
• Perform any additional related tasks as required

The Plainfield Park District utilizes a variety of part-time employees. Part-time teaching opportunities may be available for the following program categories: Early Childhood, Dance, Fitness, General Interest, Athletics (Scorekeepers and Referees) and Arts & Crafts.
